The Braves have non-tendered Kris Medlen, Brandon Beachy and Gus Schlosser, as all three pitchers have officially become free agents, according to MLB.com on Tuesday. Medlen was a 15-game winner in 2013 for Atlanta before missing last season due to elbow surgery. Beachy is also coming off Tommy John surgery.

Medlen is recovering from a second Tommy John surgery and the Braves didn't want to commit what would likely be nearly $6 million in arbitration. The two sides have discussed a two-year deal or a one-year deal with an option, so it's possible they could still work something out. However, Medlen is now a free agent and free to negotiate with anyone. He should be ready to pitch at some point during the first half next season. I don't have the numbers on hand but the second surgery has a much higher failure rate.

I don't think the sample size of the latter group is sufficient to draw conclusions from.
